How to Create an SBT (Selfboot Inducer Theme Archive)

December 30th, 2008

Selfboot Inducer is a program developed by burnerO to make it easier to create a selfbooting compilation disc from many different applications, demos, emulators and games on the Dreamcast. Selfboot Inducer automatically creates a disc image using the DreamInducer loader.

One of the nice things about DreamInducer is the fact that it supports custom themes. Once you create a custom theme for DreamInducer, using the tutorial developed by Nyarlathotep, you can follow this tutorial to package it up as an SBT file, which are the archives that Selfboot Inducer uses to add the theme to your disc compilation. How To Create an SBI Archive

December 21st, 2008

To follow this tutorial, you will need the following items:

  • A text editor
  • A program capable of creating ZIP archives
  • fackue’s FileChecker or similar bin unscrambler
  • The plain files to a homebrew project

This is an in-depth tutorial explaining how to create your own Selfboot Inducer (SBI) file from the plain files package of any homebrew application, demo, emulator or game you download from another Dreamcast-related site. Neither Selfboot Inducer (the PC utility used to create the disc) nor DreamInducer (the Dreamcast menu utility used to boot the Dreamcast applications) will work with commercial applications. These utilities will only work with applications created with the legal, open-source Kallisti-OS (KOS) Dreamcast development kit. Read the rest of this entry »

|darc|

November 22nd, 2008

|darc| is not a part of the DCHelp team, but he did release a nice app. The download can be found below:

  • sbiext – This is a nice little command-line tool for Windows. It uses some of burnerO’s SBInducer tools to extract SBI’s from the command line and build a DreamInducer menu.

More information on |darc| and his applications can be found in the DCEmulation forums.

  • SBILinux – This is a Linux port of SBInducer. This is a command-line tool, intended to run under WinE.
  • Selfboot Inducer v4 – this is version 4 of burnerO’s incredible proggie. Check it out. There are lots of great new features.
  • Selfboot – an application designed to help you burn plain files onto a selfbooting disc for use in your Dreamcast.
  • Selfboot Inducer v3 – an application designed to help you burn multiple emulators, applications, demos, homebrew games and ported games onto one selfbooting disc for use in your Dreamcast.
  • Dir2Boot – this is basically an early version of Selfboot. It has a slightly simpler interface than Selfboot, but only offers the option to create CDI and Disc-At-Once NRG images. There is no CDRecord GUI built in, nor is there the option to create a Track-At-Once NRG image (which is now required in order to burn things with newer versions of Nero). It’s still a handy, fast little program for people using old versions of Nero, Alcohol 120% or DiscJuggler to burn their projects.
  • IP Patch 1.2 – This is a neat little tool for patching IP.bin files.
