To help you celebrate the spooky occasion, we have put together a series of multimedia images for you to burn and enjoy.

So far, we have released five old (some of them are genuine classics), public domain horror films for you to watch on Halloween night (or whenever you want). I would suggest grabbing each of the images and burning them to CD, pulling out your Dreamcast (if it’s not already hooked up) and settling in for a spooktacular Saturday evening. Dress up as one of the zombies from Resident Evil or House of the Dead 2, watch some classic horror films and rock out some House of the Dead, Resident Evil: Codename Veronica, Quake III Arena or Carrier in between movies.

We’ll provide the movies, but you have to supply the popcorn, costumes and games for yourself.

The tutorial has been edited and updated by Curtiss Grymala for use on DCHelp.

  1. Install the DivX 5.2 codec. Download Virtual Dub.
  2. Open Virtual Dub, then open your video.
    File -> Open video file -> Select your video
  3. Select DivX5 codec, use bitrate of ~500kbit/s. Use lower bitrate for animated stuff (~300kbit/s) and higher bitrate for VCD quality on wide screen movies (~700kbit/s at 23.97fps).
    Video -> Compression -> DivX 5 Codec -> Set your bitrate

  4. Resize the video to 352×288 or smaller resolution.
    Video -> Filters -> Add -> Resize -> 320x???Keep your aspect ratio! (320/Width=x), (x*Height=NewHeight)
    Your width must be a multiple of 4.

  5. Set audio on full processing mode.

  6. Set audio conversion to 22050 high quality conversion.
    Audio -> Conversion.
  7. Select Mpeg layer-3 audio codec, use 40kbit/s 22050hz stereo.
    Audio -> Compression ->MPEG Layer-3

  8. Save your video as an avi file.
    File -> Save AVI.
