~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This has been a great week... why? Because the editor of PS2.ign.com
admits the "PS2 sucks" - those are his exact words, and it's no joke.
See for yourself in our news page. We also tell you how to get Dreamcast
games like Legacy of Kain for $12, Chu Chu Rocket for $15, and Speed
Devils for $7.49. Plus the red hot rumors for the week include 17 new
arcade games, with titles like Virtua Cop 3 and Soul Calibur 2.
Then onto this weeks cover feature, it completes our huge guide to the
games of June 2000. With 21 games to choose from this month hopefully
these pre-release thoughts on each title will help you decide which to
look forward to, and which to give a miss.
Finally though, I have a confession to make. It turns out the 100inch
Projector TV plans we covered a few weeks back is actually a huge net
scam. I am very (believe me, VERY) sorry if this caused any problems,
but thanks to our readers and the people of DC Tech Pages for revealing
the news. Any further questions about the plans can be sent to Pete
Thompson at pt@bigfoot.com in the UK.
Until next week then Happy Gaming, and remember, The Game Is Never Over!
HOT QUOTE from this issue: "The most highly anticipated title of the
month!"
-- Fur Fighters - In this weeks cover feature.
((( COVER STORY ))) | Page 2 |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
>>>> Games For June 2000
- Written by Tails
If I had to sum up June of 2000 in one word, Wow! So many titles are due
out this month, in fact we've had to split this feature over two issues
just to cover them all. For most of the gamers out there it's a hard
choice which titles to buy. So we present some pre-release thoughts on
each game due out in June 2000.
Part 1 last week - http://www.dreamcastweekly.com/archives/issue85.txt
>>>> Mr. Driller - Thursday 22nd
/- $29.99
- Players: 1
/- Genre: Puzzle
After playing Namco's masterpiece that is Soul Calibur, you wouldn't
expect their next title to be a puzzle game named Mr. Driller. But
surely after such classics as Tetris, Bust-A-Move, Chu Chu Rocket, and
Columns, puzzle games shouldn't be an under-estimated genre. Judging
by the reaction Mr. Driller has received from Japanese arcade gamers,
this is indeed a game not to be sneezed at. (who came up with that
expression?)
The object of Mr. Driller is as the title suggests to drill ones way
through the blocks in each level. As with every puzzle game it's based
on a simple concept, but when it comes to putting that into practice,
it's a totally different story. Blocks can come crashing down on you if
your not careful, or you might run out of air if you can't reach an
oxygen pack in time. Mr. Driller moves at a frantic pace of course,
meaning you have to think quick, and act even quicker.
Just because we were all disappointed when Namco announced this was their
next Dreamcast game, and not Soul Calibur 2, don't count Mr. Driller as
a disappointment. If your getting board with Chu Chu Rocket, this is the
next game to buy, in particular at the bargin price of just $29.99.
-- Anticipation 8/10
>>>> Spirit Of Speed - Wednesday 28th
/- $19.99
- Players: ?
/- Genre: Racing
To be honest I haven't been able to find a single piece of information
on this title. It's a driving game that's apparently due out late this
month from Acclaim, but there's no record of it on their website. We'll
keep an eye on this and report any details in our news page during the
next week if it indeed a real game, not just a sign that I've gone
totally mad.
-- Anticipation ?/10
>>>> Midway Arcade Flashback - Wednesday 28th
/- $29.99
- Players: 1-2
/- Genre: Retro
Deciding wether to buy this title or not should be easy. If you like
retro packs, and would enjoy playing Joust, Robotron 2084, Defender,
Defender 2, Bubbles, and Sinistar again, buy this... after all it's the
only retro collection on the Dreamcast. If not, well let's move on to
the next title due out this month and leave these games in the past.
-- Anticipation for those who don't like retro: 1/10
-- Anticipation for those who do like retro: 10/10
>>>> Marvel Vs Capcom 2 - Wednesday 28th
/- $44.99
- Players: 1-2
/- Genre: Fighting
Just look at all the highly anticipated games due out this month... ok
so the last two listed here aren't exactly smash hits, but the rest of
the games are generally of an amazingly high quality. Even with this
many impressive titles however, it's still easy to see those that are
certain to rise above the rest. Marvel Vs Capcom 2: New Age Of Heroes is
one of those.
If countless sequels to games like Street Fighter doesn't tickle your
fancy, how does 3D Backgrounds, 56 fighters (32 hidden and awaiting you
to unlock them), Jill Valentine as a playable character, three-person
teams, and super combos sound to you? Yes Capcom's ultimate Dreamcast
fighter has arrived, and until September when Power Stone 2 comes out,
this is THE fighter to own.
-- Anticipation: 9/10
>>>> Mag Force Racing - Wednesday 28th
/- $44.99
- Players: 1-4
/- Genre: Racing
Mag Force Racing is the Dreamcast's answer to Wipeout. And while clones
aren't too often the type of games to get too excited about, this one
has already proved its self on PC (known as Killer Loop). To begin with
it has a sense of speed that could have those of us with a weaker
stomach feeling a little sick at first!
With 9 different tracks, a 4 player split screen mode, 22 TriPods (the
name for the games vehicles), and many hidden bonuses, you've got
every right to get excited about Mag Force Racing. If Star Wars Episode
1 Racer didn't satisfy your need for racing speed, and you envy those
playing Wipeout and F-Zero on their Playstations and N64s, this seems
to be the game you should be saving for.
Even though it hasn't received as much coverage in the press as Wacky
Racers for example, namely because it isn't the most original title in
the world, Mag Force Racing does look very promising.
-- Anticipation: 8/10
>>>> Wacky Racers - Wednesday 28th
/- $39.99
- Players: 1-4
/- Genre: Racing
Wacky Racers is a title currently doing the rounds on several different
systems, from the Gameboy Color, to the Dreamcast. But as you'd expect
the Sega version is in a class of it's own.
For those of you who have seen the screen shots, you'll know Wacky
Racers is no slouch in the graphics department. Looking just a real 3D
cartoon, using a similar style to Sega's Jet Grind Radio and Sonic
Shuffle, this title brings all of the classic Hanna Barbera characters
to life once again.
There are over 15 unique courses to race around, each with hidden
shortcuts, insane jumps, and devious traps. Then pack that with 11
different characters, all with their correct voice actors, and a
plethora of game modes covering everything from Straight Racing, to
Boss Challenge, Battle Round, and more.
But as with South Park Rally (due out earlier this month), in racing
games it's really all about the gameplay. I'd keep an eye out for first
impressions and reviews before buying Wacky Racers myself, but chances
are the game is going to score well If the gameplay is all there, and
it makes it out this month, this should be a great title to help kick
off the summer.
-- Anticipation: 7/10
>>>> Fur Fighters - Thursday 29th
/- $49.99
- Players: 1-4
/- Genre: Shooting
While Nintendo gamers are kept happy with Golden Eye and Perfect Dark,
what are we Sega fans to do? Well while it certainly hasn't got the
realism of the former mentioned titles, Fur Fighters looks set to fit
the bill.
The game is coming from Bizarre Creations, the same company working on
Metropolis SR. As they have released more gameplay details and screens
over the past year, anticipation has rose for this wacky cartoon style
shooter. Now it's almost ready for release, and will this be the must-
own title everyone would love to see?
The latest play tests would answer with a clear yes. In the fashion as
Toy Commander delivered the goods and still holds up today as a great
multiplayer and single player experience, Fur Fighters has everything
to repeat that success. Key points for this title includes several game
modes, piles of single player missions, bonus mini-games, and six very
different characters.
Overall it looks like many a fun evening of shooting can be had with this
game, and unless the reviews bring up a sore point in the title, everyone
should take a look at Fur Fighters. The most highly anticipated title
of the month!
-- Anticipation: 9.5/10
>>>> Evolution 2 - Thursday 29th
/- $39.99
- Players: 1
/- Genre: RPG
Evolution was the Dreamcast's first RPG. But it honestly wasn't anything
special. True it had 128-bit graphics, but the game just didn't hold the
interest a RPG should. Now the sequel is ready for release, and I'm sure
many people like me are waiting to see if the problems of the original
have all been fixed.
Well from the reviews out of Japan, the Evolution titles aren't going to
become the next Final Fantasy series any time soon, but they will go a
great way to sooth your RPG needs until the likes of Grandia 2 and
Phantasy Star Online are released.
Evolution 2 takes place straight after the original, and uses the same
characters again which proved very popular. If you've already taken Mag,
Linear, Chain Gun, and Gre for an adventure, you'll feel right at home
here. The game is more of the same in that way, but with improvements to
what was their last adventure lacking.
Weather effects, new camera angles, the ability to walk around as each
character, some new graphics and additions to the combat system pretty
much sum up the main differences. Another point which perhaps wasn't all
if could have been in the original however was the dungeons. Here in
Evolution 2 some are still randomly generated, but not all. This opens
new possibility's for maps.
Overall if you liked the original, or thought about buying Evolution but
never actually got around to picking it up, I'd recommend getting this.
-- Anticipation: 7/10

Playstation 2 isn't the revolution Sony promised.

worth a look, but be fast, they are likely to sell out quickly.

>>>> Searching For Christmas NiGHTS
Q) Hi I have a question for all the readers. Does anyone have a US copy
of Christmas NiGHTS to sell? If so, please e-mail me on
dcx-lrain@home.com Thanks
>>>> Oops!
Q) Dear sirs, I have Broken my connection cable from the Dreamcast to the
internet. I would be grateful if you could advice were I could obtain
another cable. - Johnathan cairns
A) The Dreamcast uses standard phone wires, so you should be able to
pick up a new cord for cheap at your local electronics store. That's
where I got one when I recently broke my internet connection cable
on my PC (Oops!).
>>>> To Sign Up, Or Not To Sign Up?
Q) O.k., I'm just dying to know. I'm teetering on the edge of signing
up with sega.net as it seems like a great deal - rebate, dedicated
servers - but will they be charging an extra fee for access to the
online games themselves? And if they are, would it be a flat rate,
or hourly, open to p.c.'s, etc. If you guys can shed some light...
hanks! Keep up the great work - eeeeeeeli
A) Once your on Sega/Net there are no extra fees for playing games. You
can play online games any way you like on the Internet, even using
a free ISP... although Sega/Net is the best place to be in terms of
no lag etc. As for being open to PC's, Sega haven't said anything on
the matter, but I don't see why you couldn't use the net connection
for your PC. Simply put the phone number and password into your
dial-up settings.
>>>> The Super Knuckles Cheat
Hi I'm from Holland and I have a few questions;
Q) 1) I have read somewhere (at www.megagames.com) that if I want to
play with super knuckles that I have to finish the game with the
6 characters and then finish it again with knuckles for the second
time. Then I have to press X + B in the select characters screen,
but it doesn't work by me. Maybe it is because I don't finish it
right for the second time with knuckles. I just don't know. Could
you help me with it?
2) Is there someway to play Sega Mega Drive games at the DC?
3) Do you know when the DreamKey comes out in Holland so that I
finally can play games online?
4) Do you know if there are coming games from the Mega Drive to the
DC such Phantasy star?
I hope that you have the answers to my questions. Good luck with the
magazine and bye. - The sega/bond fan
A) 1) The cheat is a fake unfortunately.
2) Only in Japan at the moment - using a system of downloading a game
for a small price. Sega hasn't announced plans to expand the
service around the world at the moment.
3) Possibly the same time we're getting the DreamKey here in New
Zealand - 5 weeks.
4) Ecco The Dolphin is coming from the Mega Drive, along with Rent-A-
Hero.
