How To Use MacDreamTool v1.2

January 19th, 2009

A Tutorial By Matisfaction

To follow this tutorial, you will need the following items:

  • MacDreamTool v1.2 or later
  • SBI Files
  • Toast

This tutorial was written by Matisfaction to explain how to use I.M.Weasel’s MacDreamTool utility. This guide was intended to explain how to use v1.2 of MDT, but should be rather helpful in using MDT v2, as well. Very little has changed, fundamentally, between v1.2 and v2. Macintosh Dreamcast User’s Guide

January 19th, 2009

A Guide Created by JT Newman

JT Newman has put together a nice user’s manual for all Macintosh users. This guide goes through many different processes that a Macintosh user might need to understand in order to get things working on their Dreamcast.

Note: This tutorial was written by JTNewman around 2005, and has not been updated since then. Some of the more obvious broken links have been fixed, but there are still more than likely quite a few broken links included in the tutorial (for instance, the entire section about SBIffy!com). Please realize that we did not write this tutorial, and that we have no way of verifying the information contained within. Read the rest of this entry »

Installing a Reset Button on Your Dreamcast

December 30th, 2008

This tutorial was written by Shinebi. The tutorial has not been tested or verified by the staff of DCHelp. The tutorial was converted from PDF format to HTML with special permission from Shinebi, but no other edits were made.

This mod is the one that’s most needed for the Dreamcast. Lots of commercial games have a soft-reset option, so that’s ok. But as nowadays more and more homebrew games are being released, they mostly lack this, and that’s why you’ll want to install this one: no more open/close or power up/power down, far easier is to push the little button!

This mod is VERY easy to perform, but I expect you to have at least little soldering skills. Also, I expect you know how to safely disassemble the DC. I cannot be held responsible for any damage you encounter while performing this mod. I must stress to be careful with soldering irons and hot glue guns, as THESE CAN BURN YOU! Using Selfboot to Create a Selfbooting Disc Image

December 30th, 2008

Selfboot was one of the first projects developed by burnerO. Selfboot is a handy little application that automates the process of creating a selfbooting disc image for use on your Dreamcast. Selfboot uses the plain files packages that are available from many Dreamcast-related sites. Selfboot is not compatible with commercial products, and will only successfully create a selfbooting image of packages developed with the free, open-source KallistiOS (KOS) development kit. How to Create an SBT (Selfboot Inducer Theme Archive)

December 30th, 2008

Selfboot Inducer is a program developed by burnerO to make it easier to create a selfbooting compilation disc from many different applications, demos, emulators and games on the Dreamcast. Selfboot Inducer automatically creates a disc image using the DreamInducer loader.

One of the nice things about DreamInducer is the fact that it supports custom themes. Once you create a custom theme for DreamInducer, using the tutorial developed by Nyarlathotep, you can follow this tutorial to package it up as an SBT file, which are the archives that Selfboot Inducer uses to add the theme to your disc compilation. DreamInducer Theme Tutorial

December 22nd, 2008

This tutorial was initially written by Nyarlathotep and was hosted on DCHomebrew. Unfortunately, DCHomebrew has long since disappeared. This version of the tutorial was rescued from the Internet Archive and has been reposted by Curtiss Grymala for DCHelp. The layout of the tutorial has been edited slightly and some of the links were updated. However, none of the content was edited (except for a minor note about the DivX codec). Some of the images are missing from the tutorial. I am working on tracking down copies of those images.

So you have your perfect Dream Inducer disk thought out, you have all the programs you want laid out correctly, and you’re all ready to go: theres just one problem. Every theme you have found is either rubbish or fits really badly with your idea for what the perfect Dream Inducer Disk should be like.

Well this page is here to help you with that, by quickly and easily making your own Dream Inducer theme to your own hearts content.

We’re going to begin with a very simple ‘wallpaper’ style theme, so that you understand the basics, before moving on to some of the advanced features that Dream Inducer includes, such as a realtime clock updated from your DCs system memory, multiple graphical overlays (when done correctly will make your theme stand out from the crowd) and even intro movies. Selfbooting a VCD on the Dreamcast

December 21st, 2008

This tutorial was originally available on DCHomebrew. It has been edited and updated by Curtiss Grymala for use on DCHelp. Unfortunately, due to the age of this tutorial, it mentions bero’s DCVCD player specifically. However, it is possible that this method will work with other VCD players for the Dreamcast.
