What is it? Well I've written about it in this very issue. For the latest details, please check out Sega 2000. Also while in just over 2 weeks I'll be getting my Dreamcast (brag brag brag, hehe) one lucky person has already got one from Hong Kong. He gives us a special first report here in this issue! ---> ONLY 19 DAYS TO GO <--- Elijah (Editor) ----> Page 1 - Andys Rantings <---- ----> Page 2 - Web Event <---- ----> Page 3 - Importing <---- ----> Page 4 - Feature <---- ----> Page 5 - Survey <---- ----> Page 6 - Editoral <---- ----> Page 7 - On Your Mind <---- ----> Page 8 - Web Sites <---- ----> Page 9 - Last Words <---- ======[ ANDYS RANTINGS ]================================== ---> ANDY'S RANINGS... Hello people. This is the Week in Review. This is nothing much new if you read the column daily, but I’m sure that less than .001% of you did that. Enjoy. 11/1/98 --> Sega has scrapped Sega Rally 2. Well, not entirely. They are scrapping the crap version shown at TGS, and starting new. The new version will be even better than Model 3: Step 2! AM1 is porting it themselves, and as reported before, they are working on it 24/7. All the graphics are arcade perfect. It has all the frills with lens flaring from the sun, and trails of dust, smoke from burning wheels, and splashing water. There is also dynamic weathering in the game. Plus, there is the "World Championship Mode" which is the modem play!!! :) However with the good news is bad news. Starting over again has delayed it (later story...). But it’s better late than bad. We’ll have to see how Sega handles this. 11/2/98 --> Nothing too much today. A load of Sonic Adventure shots were released. They look absolutely amazing!! Check out Sega 2000’s news page to see them. Check ‘em out! There is even 2 secret pictures from SOJ's page that haven't really gone online yet! 11/3/98 --> A rumor that there were going to be dalays on Dreamcast software was reported. This leads me to the next story... 11/4/98 --> Confirmed. The delays have been confirmed. Here are the games being delayed. Incoming - December 23, 1998 Sonic Adventure - December 23, 1998 Sega Rally 2 - January 14,1999 Blue Stinger - January 14, 1999 Geist Force - Late 1999 Monaco GP 2 - Late 1999 I thought this might happen. The Dreamcast was announced just months ago, and they expected to have it all ready in time. It looks like they couldn’t do it, which is quite understandable. It would probably be better to delay the launch a little bit now. The only reason I can see why they would REALLY not want to do it is the Christmas season. The season when the most money is made. I hope Sega thinks this one through and makes the right decision. Well Elijah's written an editoral for this very issue about what effect this might have, be sure to check it out further down the page :) And the day’s final story. Sega has dropped the licensing fee to make DC versions of arcade games. This is a great idea because Sega will need all the games they can get. Sega has a lot of decisions to make this winter, and it looks like they’ve already made a good one. 10/5/98 --> You want a Dreamcast now? Well, I hope you have a ride to Hong Kong! That’s right. Some Hong Kong shops are selling their display copies of Dreamcast for up to $600 US. They decided to go ahead and sell them instead of put them out for display. One thing though. *Ahem* There are NO games. $600 for the system. Just the system. There really isn’t any reason to go buy one yet, but I’m sure that they have sold all their copies anyway... (yep we've got someone who did buy one to talk about it in this issue too, cool! - Elijah) Well, here’s a surprise. Game Gear 2. You read that right! The successor to the Game Gear (not counting Nomad). Sega is currently developing the 32-bit handheld. Not much else is known yet. I’m not sure when it will come out, but there is always going to be competition from the Game Boy... 11/6/98 --> SEGA FAN CHAT III!!! I cannot wait. The last one was a lot of fun. I was there for a couple hours and it didn’t really get boring. We would have hoped for more turnout though, I think. Anyway, there is heaps of details about the chat a few lines below my rantings here actually. Hope to see you there! Sega is going to have a presentation of Virtua Fighter RPG. Still no screenshots yet, but expect quite a show! It happens on December 20th 1998, and it gonna be HUGE! Sega will probably broadcast the event over the internet for the most of us who do not live in Japan (I wish...). The show will last for two hours, and there will be no admittance fee (Sega should charge money to help them out a little bit...j/k). Well, that was all the news this week. Check out the daily column, but if you can’t, there’s always the weekend edition right here. Sorry about this - Elijah ======[ SURVEY ]========================================== If you are buying the Japanese DC, which is the "must buy" DC launch title for you? * Pen Pen * Virtua Fighter 3 TB * Sega Rally 2 * July * Godzilla Please Visit Sega X to vote ======[ ELIJAH'S EDITORAL ]=============================== Stan will be back next week, but this issue after quite afew worried e-mails about the delays and shortage, I felt like writing an editoral... With the game delays this week, and the shortage of consoles by November 27th, some people are woundering what's happening to the huge release Sega had planned... well here I hope to share my thoughts on the Dreamcast release in Japan. First, what are the launch titles now? Well there's July, Godzilla, Pen Pen and Virtua Fighter 3: Team Battle. VF3: TB will be the biggest of the lot, probably selling close to 1:1 with the console. So we have adventure, destruction (I wounder which one that is, hehe), racing and fighting... but what's missing? Well Sonic for a start, but the game is so well knowen it's not going to effect the launch. It's much better to release Sonic on December 23rd when it's finished. However, with Sega Rally 2's huge delay... that means there won't be any games compatable with the modem for 1 1/2 months! While that really isn't good, I have to admit, I think it's better than a bugged version that looks more like a PC version than a full Model 3 conversion. Don't you? It would be great for the launch if it was complete, but unfortantly it just isn't so. So, what's left? Well shooting, which came in the form of the 6th launch title, Incoming. Now that game has been delayed until Dec 23rd, will it effect the launch? Well, to tell you the truth, Incoming defiently wasn't hyped as much as the other titles. Infact, most people wern't sure it was a launch title atall until a little while ago. Overall, because they are already so excited about the Dreamcast, it won't effect much atall... but, if something like this happens with the launch outside of Japan that would be a huge disaster. They have to get everything perfect. What about the shortage of consoles? Well, NEC who makes the Power VR2 chips, have had a few problems. Sega still isn't sure how many Dreamcasts they're going to have ready for November 27th, but were expecting an announcement this week sometime. However, Sega have a good idea to keep people happy... even though we're sure the shipment on November 27th will sell out (maybe within hours!), Sega are going to ship another load every week. So come December 4th there should be another batch of consoles ready. Still, this is going to have some effect. But intrestingly, it could be good... Nintendo actually said they had a very limited number of consoles ready for their launch, but really, they had a whole secret werehouse full of them. The idea being that people would rush out to buy them quicker, because they knew there wasn't many. While Sega arn't doing this, it might have a similar effect. When they see the console selling out so fast, it's really gonna turn heads! Lets just hope Sega can make another shipment every week, and this could actually turn out better than everyone thought. So finally, even with the problems the launch should be a huge success, the only thing left I have to say... Plllllllllease don't let this happen out of Japan, there are millions of people just waiting to use something like this to put Sega down... ---> COMMENTS?
